Personal letters from Claude Lionel Cumberlege RN

A collection of letters, written by Cumberlege whilst serving in the Australian Navy, in World War One. Includes letters from Cumberlege to his mother, which as well as giving his own account of the Guinea action, tell of his recovery from malaria, spells of leave in Sydney’s Blue Mountains, his grief at the death of his sister, and the challenge of operating over vastness of the Pacific. Also letter to his daughter, Diana (1910-1989) and a undated handwrritten sonnet by William Watson; "To America; War Poem", signed "from Daddy".
