The life of Daniel Defoe / John Richetti.

Daniel Defoe was born in London in 1660. This book concentrates on Defoe's work and places it in the context of what is known about his life. There are extended analyses of his works, encompassing his journalism on political, moral, religious and economc subjects and his fiction, including Robinson Crusoe. Much of his political journalism, written between 1683 and the early 1700s, concentrated on his supprt for King William III or William of Orange. He was imprisoned for his writing in 1713 by his political opponents. The author places Defoe's writing within the context of the 18th century and refers to Defoe's participation in the events and cirumstances of that time. There are extensive notes, a bibliography and a detailed index.
