The history and development of the Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company created in 1903 as a result of the merger between the Tyne Steam Shipping Company, the Tees Union Shipping Company and Furness Withy & Company. The origins of each founding company are explored along with the company's acquisition by Coast Lines in 1943 and eventual absorption into P&O Ferries as a result of their acquisition of Coast LInes in 1971. The book is illustrated throughout with paintings and photographs of the vessels and corporate documentation. Appendices include fleet lists of the Aberdeen Steam Navigation Company (acquired by Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company in 1945), Free Trade Wharf Company, Christopher Furness/Furness Withy & Company, Havelock Line (acquired by Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company in 1913), London & Middlesburgh Steam Shipping Company, Stockton & London Steam Shipping Company, Tees Union Shipping Company, Tyne Steam Shipping Company and Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company. A fleet list of global tramp ship services is provided, covering the vessels of R M Hudson and B J Sutherland & Company/Sutherland Steam Ship Company. An index of ship names is also provided.
