Elders & Fyffes : a photographic history /Campbell McCutcheon.
A history of the Elders & Fyffes line and the banana trade from the company's formation until the 1970s. The company was formed in 1901 out of a joint venture between the shipping company Elder Dempster and fruit importer Fyffe & Hudson & Co to import bananas from the West Indies. In 1969 Elders & Fyffes were acquired by Fruit Importers of Ireland Ltd (a company formed out of the merger of United Fruit Importers, Torney Brothers & McCann and Connolly Shaw) and their name was changed to Fyffes Group Ltd. Fruit Importers of Ireland subsequently purchased both the Fyffes brand and Geest. The author aims to include photographs of each ship directly owned by Elders & Fyffes. More recent vessels chartered by the company and those owned by Geest are not included.
