The entangling net : Alaska's commercial fishing women tell their lives
A collection of interviews of women's personal experiences in the Alaskan commercial ocean fishing industry between the late 1970s to the late 1990s. Particular focus is given to fishing in Kodiak and the Gulf of Alaska, with mention of fishing communities in Valdez, Cordova and Juneau. Chapters explore, in the women's own words, why they were drawn to fishing; the physical and environmental challenges; discrimination they have faced; and Alaskan fishing and boat culture. Chapters are interspersed with the author's own diary entries and notes. The book also contains short biographies of the 25 women interviewed along with black and white photographs of them at work.
