The Australian challenges 1898 and 1998 : the story of the England v Australia yacht races held at the Medway Yacht Club
This is an account of the 1898 and 1998 series of races, written by a local historian and Medway Yacht Club (MYC) member. The year 1898 witnessed the formation of the MYC's first one-design class. In September 1898 a race took place between two entirely different dinghies. One boat was an ex-champion of Australia which relied on a very large sail. The English boat represented the latest developments in small boat design and was referred to as a 'skimming dish' by the Australians. The 1998 challenge was organized to celebrate the centenary of the original Australian challenge. The book contains: information on the origins of the challenge; reproductions from the archives and a selection of photographs from the 1998 series.
