Autobiography by J A Parker, a Leading Cook in the Royal Navy between 1949 and 1957, based on the more than 600 letters he wrote his wife in the course of his service. The book provides a detailed first-hand account of everyday Navy life, including Parker's service in HMS Solebay, HMS Barcarole, and HMS Defender, in the training ship HMS Ganges, and particularly while serving as part of the fleet accompanying the Royal Yacht Britannia around Europe in 1956. Black and white photographs throughout.
