Beginning with the first well-recorded yacht race on the Thames between King Charles II and his brother the Duke of York in 1662, the author traces the development of yacht racing as a sport, the beginnings of the Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC) and its influence on the sport. The author provides an insight into the foundation of the Club in 1823, its running and the personalities and yachts involved in its history since. The text is supported by reproductions of artworks held by the Club. Lists of races and prizewinners are provided.
