My father : being records of the adventurous life of the late William Scoresby, Esq. of Whitby /by William Scoresby.
A biography of William Scoresby (1760-1829), a prosperous whaler and polar navigator, written by his son. Scoresby entered the Greenland whaling industry on board the Henrietta in 1785, working on coastal vessels during the off-season. Later commands included the Dundee of London, Resolution, John, Mars and Fame. Scoresby's biography highlights incidents during his father's life at sea, including his invention of the crow's nest, descriptions of the capture and killing of whales and walruses, and his reaching the furthest point north on the Resolution. Tables detail the number of whales caught (533), oil (4664 tuns) and whalebone (240 tons)as a result of Scoresby's 30 voyages.
