DSB ferries : ships of the Danish state railways /Bruce Peter.
A photographic record of the ships of the Danish national rail operator, Danske Statsbaner. Tracing its origins back to 1827, the company became the nation's largest provider of domestic and international ferry services. The history follows the company's initial development of national train ferry routes and then expansion with international connections to Germany and Sweden. The ferry business drew to a close in the 1990s with the opening of the Great Belt Bridge and supporting road links. Illustrated throughout with photographs of the ships and their interiors, the photographs are supported by detailed captions.

From Duncansby head to the Solway Firth / Mike Smylie
"Since Britain joined the European Economic Community in the mid- 1970s, the fishing industry along our coasts has been under pressure from overfishing. In this book, Mike Smylie takes us on a tour from Duncansby Head to the Solway Firth. Here, small crofting communities sit on the fringe of the sea, hidden among the lochs and islands that indent Scotland's beautiful west coast and using what may well be the prettiest fishing boats in Britain. Although fishing here was mostly subsistence level and did not approach the scale of the industry on the east coast, there were large harbours at Stornoway, Castle Bay on Barra, Ullapool, Mallaig, Tarbet and Campbeltown. Mike Smylie shows us harbours, large and small, along with the boats and the communities that depended on them, from the herring fishery of Stornoway to salmon netting on the Solway Firth."--Provided by the publisher.

The origins of self-winding watches, 1773-1779 / Richard Watkins.
"First published December 2013 as a hardcover limited edition of 100 copies, this book 264-page is a serious examination of the technology and history of self-winding watches. It covers a period of seven years, during which the five basic designs were created, and examines the roles of Abram Louys Perrelet, Hubert Sarton, Abram Louis Breguet and others, who contributed to the development of these watches. The appendices include details of case makers used by Philipe DuBois & Fils, and some remarks about later developments."--Provided by the publisher.

Pirates : an illustrated history /Nigel Cawthorne.
An erudite explanation of everything piratical, this book portrays the pirates, their weapons, their ships, their victims, and the historical background to all the saltwater tales of both pirates and navy. The exploits of the most famous pirates are also recounted here, from the cold-hearted ruthlessness of Blackbeard to the derring-do of Bartholomew Roberts, whose views were summed up by his motto: "A merry life, and a short one."

I set my watch... : the story of a family in Greenwich and beyond /Celia Smith.
In this book the author traces the history of her maternal grandmother's family, who lived in Greenwich for many years. When the author's mother died, a quantity of diaries, letters and manuscripts were discovered, which led her to investigate further. The family had always believed that a distant ancestor had come to England with George I and the author explores this further. Other family members had connections with people such as Robert Browning, Charles Dickens and members of the Royal family. As well as telling the stories of her ancestors, the author provides information about life in and around Greenwich up until 1923. There are many colour photographs and an illustration showing part of the 1867 Ordnance Survey map of Greenwich.

'At the sign of Atlas' : the life and work of Joseph Moxon, a Restoration polymath /Derek A. Long.
Joseph Moxon established himself in London as a printer, publisher, type-founder and maker of scientific instruments and globes, including pocket globes and the Castlemaine globe. In his later years, he wrote and published two famous books, The Mechanick Exercises, Volumes I and II. They gave accurate accounts of various crafts, thus beaking the traditions of secrecy in the Craft Guilds.

Arctic / edited by Michael Juul Holm, Mathias Ussing Seeberg and Poul Erik Tojner.
"The Arctic encompasses a basis narrative of our culture and its use of images and constructs, myths and mise-en-scenes. Louisiana's exhibition and this catalogue unfold the dream of the far North as image, cultural ideal and scientific field. From the Romantic Age to present-day contemporary art, the Arctic plays a role as a place where everything terminates in endless whiteness and something new can begin. An untouched landscape - terrifying and dangerous. Once a territory to be conquered, the Arctic today could well mark the perimeter of human power."--Back cover.
