P92874; Crowds of people on the passenger landing pier at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is standing at the foot of the Avenue Zarco looking south along the pier. Two passenger cruise ships are at anchor offshore and the furthest out is the 2-funnelled Columbus (1922) of Norddeutscher Lloyd, shown when still fitted with triple expansion engines and tall funnels.

P92936; The Bahia da Potinha breakwater, Mohle Fort and the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is looking east-by-north from Reid's Palace Hotel gardens. Just visible on the beach on the left is the new private swimming pool built for the Savoy Hotel. The Mohle Fort is at the end of the Bahia da Potinha breakwater which has been strengthened with large concrete blocks on the south side.

The photographer is looking north from a boat offshore showing the sea wall and a tall brick-built column with a mast on top of it. Blandys' building is behind the column and to the left of it is a building with Diario De Noticias on it. The Steeple of the Catredal of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao is to the right of centre and the clock on the tower reads 12.15.

The photographer is close to the boat which has one man at the oars and another man who appears to be throwing a boy into the sea (see negative number P92934 for the negative taken a few seconds before this one). Bumboats are in background, one of which has a fully rigged model of a ketch in it.

The photographer is looking forward from the starboard side of the promenade deck aft showing the boat deck and ship's funnel on the left. The passenger landing pier is in the centre of the picture and just to its right is a tall brick-built column with a mast on top of it.

P92882; Bumboats alongside the Cunard Line passenger cruise ship Lancastria (1922) in the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is on the starboard side of the aft deck of the ship looking forward and down showing a large number of bumboats gathered near the ship's side and a motor tender which is full of passengers. The traders are bartering wickerwork chairs and baskets and embroidered and lace products.
