Outrigger canoes on a beach in front of a village on the south coast of Ceylon. The canoe's hull is an hollowed out tree trunk and the side is a canvas sheet lashed to a wooden framework which is nailed to the tree trunk. The boats appear to be double-ended and the wooden outrigger is rigged to one side. One of the canoes is in the water with three occupants using poles to fish.
