The photographer is looking forward from abaft the head of the accommodation ladder alongside the face of the superstructure showing a cadet standing on the top of the ladder. Two of the ship's officers are by number 4 hold supervising the loading of a large sling of timber by the ship's cranes and a gang of Japanese men wearing safety helmets.
