A cargo of sand being discharged on board the sand suction dredger Sand Swan (1971) berthed in Bruges, Belgium. The photographer is standing near the centre inside the hold looking forward. Bird's service as supernumerary Second Officer on board the sand suction dredger Sand Swan (1970) and eventually Chief Officer on the sand suction dredger Sand Skua (1971) owned by the South Coast Shipping Co. Ltd. from 6 May 1973 to 27 June 1973.
