Looking east from Gate Lane at Freshwater Bay to Afton Down, Isle of Wight. There are bathing machines on the beach on the right. Two large houses are on either side of the un-made lane leading over Afton Down. A post coach is approaching the photographer on Afton Road. The coach is drawn by four horses and there are five or six passengers riding on top. The coachman and guard are wearing top hats and the guard is holding a long straight posthorn.
