The damaged United States Navy destroyer Nelson (1942) on North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

On board the United States destroyer Nelson (1942) berthed on North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard looking to port on the badly buckled deck just forward of her No. 3 gun mount. Her stern was blown off by a torpedo from the German motor torpedo boat S.138 off Omaha Beach, Normandy, and temporary repairs were undertaken in Portsmouth Dockyard to enable her to get to Londonderry.
