No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
Looking north-east across No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, from an elevated position in the south-west corner. A T class submarine is berthed across the caisson of No. 14 Dry Dock and the aircraft carrier Indomitable (1940) is laid up alongside the East Wall of the basin. Alongside the south side of the Promontory are a Mark 3 tank landing ship and a boom defence vessel. Beyond the 250 ton hammerhead crane is the cruiser Aurora (1936). On the north side of the basin is the fleet oiler Wave Prince (1945). On the left is the bow of the destroyer Zest (1943) with the destroyer Nonsuch (ex-German Z38) (1941) outboard.
