Afbeelding, van de Slag op Doggersbank... den 5 den Augustus 1781

The Battle of Dogger Bank was fought on 5th August 1781, between the British and Dutch navies. The image shows the battle at about "two hours before midday" with the lines of battle formed - stern views of the British ships on the left and the Dutch on the right. The inscription lists (in Dutch) the ships involved, their captains and number of guns. Much of the scene is obscured by cannon smoke. All the ships of the line have holed sails. Several smaller vessels are behind the lines, both British and Dutch.
[Inscription translated: "A representation of the Battle of Dogger Bank between the Dutch and the English fleets that took place on the 5th August 1781, showing the formation about two hours before midday when both lines of battle were within sight of each other.]
(Note: Although the inscription states the Berwick was commanded by Captain Keith Stuart [Stewart], she may have been under Captain John Ferguson who was appointed in March 1781. Captain Keith Stewart was appointed when the Berwick was first commissioned in December 1777.)
