The General Front of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich is most humbly inscribed to the Honourable Mathew Aylmer Esqr Governor of the Hospital, and Admiral of His Majesty's Fleet &c...

P.84. P.85 from Campbell's 'Vitruvius Britannicus'. A double spread showing the full frontage elevations only and the flag turrets on the Queen Anne and King William north pavilions of which only the latter was built in 1718 and removed in 1733. In the centre is a single freestanding domed building, blocking or replacing the Queen's House, and reminiscent of the chapel originally proposed by Wren in his first rejected plan for the Hospital, though in that case it formed the centre of a southern range. PvdM 10/05 [TBC on sighting]
