Dish
An earthenware side dish transfer-printed with the P&O (Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company Ltd) rising sun crest and their motto 'QUIS SEPARABIT'. The dish is an irregular roccoco-style shape and stands on a raised foot. The edge is moulded with tendrils of foliage, gilded and decorated with a purple line. There are similar lines around the foot. The full maker's marks, and Royal arms are printed on the base with the painted pattern number '3565'. The plate belonged to Captain John Jones (1798-1876), a master in the merchant service.
