Passenger vessel; Umiaq
Scale: Unknown. A model of an Inuit umiaq made in wood and animal skin. The hull is formed by a wooden frame that has been nailed together and has an animal hide wrapped around it and sewn in place. The hull is flat bottomed, double ended and is roughly rectangular in plan view although it does bow out slightly amidships. The bulwarks protrude out from the bow and the stern of the vessel. There are three thwarts, one in the centre of the boat and two either side of it. The bottom of the boat does not have any floor boards. Fittings include six oars, two of which are much longer than the others, a steering oar, and what appears to be a boat hook.
