Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland

A view from the forecastle deck, looking down at the port side of the forward embrasure abreast 'A' turret, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The large hole was caused by the entry of a 12 inch shell. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth. For another view of this hit see N16486.
