Counter depicting Admiral Louis de Bourbon, Comte de Vermandois (1667-1683) in childhood. Obverse: Head of Admiral de Vermandois as a child (right). Legend: 'LOVIS . COMTE . DE . VERMANDOIS . ADMIRAL . DE . FRAN.' Reverse: A bird - Halcyon, on its nest, floating on a calm sea; clouds above. Legend: 'ET . NASCENS . TEMPERAT . AEQVOR.' (And even at his birth he calms the waters.) Exergue: '1670.' In 1669 Colbert revived the title of Admiral of France. It was given to Louis, son of the King and the Duchesse de la Vallière, then a child of two years old.
