Jug

Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black with a portrait of Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney (1719-1792) within standards and naval trophies. Inscribed above 'Sr Geor. Bridges Rodney Bart', 'You Frenchmen & you Spaniards/Interrupt us if you dare,/We'll give you thundering Broadsides/From our English Men of War.' On the other side a man of war under sail and inscription: 'See Rodney's flag/once more display'd/Upon the Deck/he stands/Old England's glory/Never shall fade Nor tarnish/in his hands'; 'British Tars for Ever'. The jug is slightly flared at the base with a thin red painted rim.
