Jug

Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black with a circular portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with ships behind him and a garland below. Above the portrait is inscribed 'ADMIRAL NELSON', around it 'ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY' and below the garland 'VICTORY'. On the other side, within a wreath with a skull and crossbones, the verse: 'In deaths terrific icy arms,/The brave illustrious Nelson lies;/He's free from care and wars alarms/Sees not our tears nor hears our sighs.' Black lines are painted around the neck and along the handle, and there are two rows of black dots below the rim.
