Silver claret jug

A silver claret jug embossed with medieval boar-hunting scene, a swag of flowers under the lip. The handle is formed of convolvulus stems bound together. There is a blank cartouche for the inscription, but this has been added under the lip. The jug is engraved: 'PRESENTED / TO / Lieut. John Black R.N. / BY A NUMBER OF HIS FRIENDS / IN COMMEMORATION OF / HIS PROVIDENTIAL ESCAPE FROM / the wreck of the burning Europa / on the night of the 31st May 1854 / AND IN APPROBATION OF HIS CONDUCT / ON THAT OCCASION / 5 Dec. 1854'
