Sedreniwaiwai

Wooden sedreniwaiwai (oil dish) for holding scented coconut oil used in anointing rituals. The item was made in Fiji with feet and a handle carved from one piece of wood. It has a wooden tag attached and wire for suspension when not in use. Unusually there is an indigenous repair to the wood of the bowl. A residue of oil is visible in the base. This example was formerly in the collections of the London Missionary Society.
