Badge of the Order of the British Empire awarded to Dr Attracta Rewcastle (1897-1951) the first woman to be commissioned as a naval officer (acting surgeon-lieutenant RNVR). Badge: Silver gilt cross patonce. In the centre within a circle, with motto: 'FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE' gilt conjoined busts of King George V and Queen Mary. Reverse: The Royal cypher 'GRI' with a crown above, within a rope circle. Suspended from a pink ribbon edged grey. In box of issue
