Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal

Gold Papal medal awarded to Dr Attracta Rewcastle (1897-1951) for her work as President of the Catholic Women's League. A cross with fleur-de-lis between the branches. Obverse: Bust of Leo XIII in the centre surrounded by the inscription: 'LEO XIII . P. M. ANN. X.' There are comets on the arms of the cross - part of the arms of the Pecci family. Reverse: The crossed keys and papal tiara in the centre, surrounded by the inscription: 'PRO ECCLESIA ET PONTIFICE.' On the arms: 'PRID', 'CAL', 'IAN', '1888'. Suspended from a red ribbon with two white stripes towards the edges. The white stripes each have a narrow gold central stripe. In box of issue. It is the highest award given by the Pope to the laity.
