A painted earthenware figure group depicting a sailor and lass. She is sitting on a wall on a grassy mound wearing a red, brown and white flowered dress and bonnet. The sailor stands, with his bundle of possessions at his feet, holding her hand. He has a blue jacket, red waistcoat, spotted neckerchief, grey trousers and black hat. The group is placed on a brown base inscribed 'Departure'.
