A view looking towards the port quarter of the destroyer Matchless (1914) in a floating dock at Harwich. Her stern is missing, exposing her bulkheads, due to being mined on 9 November and her stern blown off. In the foreground is a ship's motor pinnace tied alongside the dock. The photographer was sitting in a ship's boat, which can just be seen in the bottom right of the photograph.
