On board the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is standing on the port side of the poop looking aft and to starboard showing the ship's wheel and compass binnacle. Wooden slatted bench seats are on either side of the poop and two boys are sitting on the starboard side. An awning is rigged over the poop and the ship's bell is suspended next to the wheel. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
