La Rochelle, second seal of the mayor and corporation, late 12th century. It depicts a late twelfth-century sailing vessel with the earliest known representation of reef-points on a sail. Inscription: 'SIG...M...VNIE DE ROCHELLA'. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
