Hanger

Hanger, which belonged to Commander Henry Upton (active 1790) of the Honourable East India Company. The hilt of the hanger consists of an octagonal brass pommel and a (51mm wide) flat crosspiece with inversed disc ends. The hanger has a fluted wooden grip, which is now cracked. There is provision for a chain knuckle-guard, which is missing. The hanger has a straight steel blade with a single groove near the flat back. The blade is very rusty and the point is missing. The blade is engraved, but it is too rusty to decipher the engraving. The scabbard is missing.
