Display dates: 2 April–20 August 2007 (extended from 14 June) Location: E-library April 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the Falklands Conflict fought between Argentina and Great Britain. The campaign was the result of a long-running dispute over the sovereignty of South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. It ended with a British victory just over two months later. Key to Britain's success was Admiral of the Fleet Sir Terence Lewin. As Chief of the Defence Staff in 1982 he was the leading military adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From 1987 to 1995 as Lord Lewin of Greenwich he was Chairman of the Trustees of the National Maritime Museum. The Museum is marking the anniversary with a display in the E-library which includes the notebook kept by Lord Lewin when briefing the War Cabinet and a model of the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes, flagship of the campaign.
