Mensun Bound is the renowned marine archaeologist who was the Director of Exploration on the team that discovered Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance.

As a marine archaeologist, Bound has discovered a variety of objects from skeletons and sewing pins to cannonballs and peacocks, all preserved in shipwrecks hundreds – sometimes thousands – of years old, each with their own story to tell.

His new book Wonders in the Deep, written with journalist Mark Frary, explores the maritime history of the world from 3,000 BC to the present day using the objects he has discovered – from Phoenician fertility statues and Corinthian helmets, to a Chinese porcelain dish and a Nazi Eagle.

Join us in Cutty Sark’s theatre to hear more about his adventures and the stories behind the many and varied objects he has discovered, as well as the shipwrecks they were found on.
