Object Handling sessions at the National Maritime Museum

Important information for visitors

Until summer 2025, there is a new visitor route at the National Maritime Museum while we carry out essential improvements to the Museum's roof. Most galleries will still be open as normal, and special exhibitions are currently free for all visitors. However, the Great Map and AHOY! will be closed for the duration of the works. Between 11am-12pm in the Sea Things gallery, come and meet the Young Object Handling Volunteers and discover objects from the handling collection.

From Egyptian funerary barges to tapa, the handling collection encourages visitors to engage with items linked to those in the galleries, encouraging you to pick them up, look closely and ask questions.

Times and dates of the sessions

Sessions will take place on select Wednesdays, September - December.

Please note, sessions are subject to last minute changes.
