Join us for a relaxed opening of Pirates at the National Maritime Museum, designed to welcome neurodivergent and SEND visitors, those with sensory processing differences, and anyone who would enjoy a calmer environment to view the exhibition.

This exhibition uncovers the truth behind pirate life – and explores why pirates continue to fascinate us today – through more than 200 objects.

What to expect

  • Fewer tickets are available per time slot, so the exhibition will be quieter than usual
  • Lighting will be adjusted for a calm experience
  • More relaxed attitude towards noise and movement
  • Beanbags will be situated at points within the exhibition to sit and unwind
  • A selection of tactile materials related to the exhibition will be available to touch

  • Price: Tickets are free, but pre-booking is required
  • Exhibition length: around 40 minutes
  • Opening times: Please note that the Museum’s galleries, cafés and shops are open to the public from 10am
  • Facilities: All floors of the National Maritime Museum have lift access. Accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility are available
