Resilience seeks to highlight the exceptional work of artists from the Black community who have established an art practice.
This event is hosted by south London arts organisation The Collective Makers, and will showcase two artists working in a digital art medium. The focus will be on exploring themes of identity, culture, language, society, and other related topics that resonate with the concept of resilience.
Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion hosted by Adoudu, followed by a dynamic DJ set from STORMY J.
Two artists have been invited to respond to the evening, creating new digital artworks which will be on display in the Queen's House:
Featured Artists:
Canaan J Brown is a London-based artist, designer, and writer whose interdisciplinary practice explores themes of displacement, mythology, and cultural excellence, particularly in Black Atlantic legacies. His work, influenced by fiction as a tool for reframing cultural narratives, has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Tate Modern and Southbank Centre. A recipient of multiple awards, Brown holds a first-class BA from the Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts and completed an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art, supported by the Sir Frank Bowling Scholarship. His work has also been featured on platforms like BBC and ITV News.
Danielle Royer is a London-based multidisciplinary artist blending illustration, animation, 3D modelling, and sculpture with emerging technologies to create immersive, character-driven experiences. She has exhibited at Millbank Tower and works with institutions such as Tate and University of the Arts London. Royer’s artistic philosophy, rooted in childhood exploration and cutting-edge technology, drives her to push boundaries in digital art while sharing her expertise through workshops and residencies.
The evening will include a talk panel with the open call winners about their practice, networking opportunities and live DJ. Check back on this page soon for more details about the artists involved.
