Barlow is transferred to the Dutch Admiral ship, the CASTLE OF LIYD, which is to return to Holland. Barlow describes the city of Batavia, the chief port of the Dutch in the East Indies. The Dutch are hated in Java, but have a strong hold on the country. Junks come from China and Japan to trade with the Dutch, who sell their worn out ships to the Chinese.
