The ship delivers some of its cargo of herring to the merchant, Mr Hill, at Marseilles. Barlow describes Marseilles, where the French navy of galleys is kept, manned by slaves. Later they encounter two ships of Algiers, but avoid an engagement with them. They anchor at Arron for a few days.
