On arrival at the Downs after a journey of six months, Barlow is disappointed not to be confirmed as commander of the SEPTER. He blames two of the ship's owners. The new commander is not a good seaman, and the ship is cast away on its next voyage.
The SEPTER is accompanied by the CHARLES on its six-month journey home to the Downs. On arrival Barlow is disappointed when he is not confirmed as commander of the SEPTER. He blames Captain Heath and Sir Henry Johnson, two of the owners, and his own lack of money to bribe them. The new commander is not a good seaman, and the ship and its cargo are cast away in the Bristol Channel on her next voyage.
