This is to certify that the ship RICHARD & SARAH, John Marshall, Commander, was taken up as a guardship with 24 seamen on board by order of their Majesties' Council of the island of Jamaica for the safety and defence of their island after the destruction of the fortifications of Port Royal, in the absence of the GUERNSEY frigate, Captain Edward Ockley, Commander, sent after the French who had landed on the island. The hire charges amount to the sum of £93.0.71/2d to be paid to John Warman and William Parrett, merchants.
