Petition of William Bates formerly Master of the DUNWICH under the command of Captain Thomas Smith in which he states that he was required to attend as a witness in proceedings against her Captain in connection with embezzlement of Stores; and later ordered to sail as Master of the MILFORD GALLEY under captain Thomas Lyell until imprisoned in Dunkirk following her capture. Since then he has continued his role as a witness in attending Assizes at Horsham in Sussex. He now seeks further employment in the Navy.
