Letter from Captain John Carrick Simpson, Second Mate on GLOUCESTER CASTLE, during the Gallipoli landing

Typed copy (the original no longer exists) of letter from John Carrick Simpson to his father, John William Simpson, giving a first-hand account of the lead-up to and events of the Gallipoli landing in the spring of 1915. Simpson was serving as First Officer on the Union-Castle Line passenger liner GLOUCESTER CASTLE when it was requistioned as a transport hospital ship. The letters are dated between 12 Mar 1915 and 22 May 1915 and cover proceeedings from Malta to Port Mudros in Greece, operations at Gallipoli, then the homeward voyage to Southampton.
