Large scrapbook containing newspaper cuttings and photographs relating to The Girls' Naval Training Corps
The scrapbook includes material relating to the first GNTC unit, at Bromley, in Kent. It comprises annotated photographs, newspaper cuttings, recruitment posters, Christmas cards and printed leaflets, plus details of THE ENGLISH ROSE; the first girls' training ship, at Poole. There is also a copy of the fiirst edition of the Corps Magazine, November 1948, along with later editions.

THE ENGLISH ROSE, a 121 tonne ketch-rigged yacht, built in 1910 in Holland, was re-fitted out as a training ship in 1946 by Commander C.L.A. Woollard RN (1888-1966), the founder of the Girls' Nautical Training Corps. She was based at Poole, in Dorset. Now renamed MIR, it is currently used in conservation projects in South East Asia.
