Letterbook of Captain William Selby,1795-1797

Letterbook containing copies of letters sent and received by Captain Selby, Bombay Marine, East India Company, between Nov 1795 and Jan 1797. The pages have been numbered 1-52 (from the front) and 53-92 (from the back). Between Dec 1795 and Jan 1797, Selby was in command of the INTREPID (1780), first on a voyage from Bombay [Mumbai] to the Arabian Sea, then in the East Indies. While at Amboyna [Ambon, Maluku Islands] in Jan 1797, he was appointed to command the frigate BOMBAY (1793). Some of the correspondence is with Captain Edward Pakenham, a senior Royal Navy officer in the East Indies.
