Night order book of the SHAHJEHAN, 1954-1956
Voyage records: Night order book used by Thompson as master of the SHAHJEHAN (1946), between January 1954 and June 1956. It contains his handwritten night orders for the watchkeeping officers, detailing courses to be maintained, action to be taken if conditions change, or when particular landmarks were observed, or when he should be woken. With two pages of typescript standing orders at the front.
The last phase of Thompson’s seagoing career is represented by the night order book of the SHAHJEHAN, 1954-1956. It records details of daily routine in watchkeeping duties and voyages which in this period ranged further afield, including visits to ports in the Red Sea, Europe, America and Japan.
