Curry was born in South Shields in 1886. He initially worked as an apprentice fitter in a shipyard we believe to be William Gray & Company before going to sea as a 3rd Engineer. After taking his tickets before the First World War, Curry ultimately worked his way up to Chief Engineer. He seems to have served in the Royal Navy in the First World War and Merchant Navy in the Second.

Notable incidents covered in this interview include experiences in the Finnish Civil War (1918) carrying refugees from Casablanca to Vancouver (though no dates are given) and taking part in the Arctic Convoys of the Second World War. The transcriber has had some problems making out all of the content though so it would likely be more useful for research than display
