Diary of merchant seaman Arthur Edgar Hopper, 1917-1919.
Notebook containing a diary kept by Arthur Edgar Hopper between 26 January 1917 and 10 September 1919. Most of the notes record events at sea during his apprenticeship on the steel barque INVERGARRY (1891) owned by William Brennand, Goole. Hopper left the INVERGARRY in January 1919 and briefly worked in a market garden in the Dandenong area of Melbourne before joining the iron barque SHANDON (1883) on a voyage to Mejillones in Chile. It ends with his departure on the passenger/cargo liner DUNVEGAN CASTLE (1896) bound for Fremantle.
